Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Program

The Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Program consists of selecting 50 urban students representing St. Louis, Kansas City, and Mid-Missouri.  During the first week of the Show-Me STATE GAMES finals in July, these high school students will participate in a leadership conference stressing the importance of leadership, character, physical fitness, higher education and community responsibility at the University of Missouri - Columbia campus.  The students will interact with each other and with positive adult role models who can share real-life experiences and challenge the participants to expand their horizons as students and leaders. There will be no fee or direct cost related to the conference for the participants.

The following criteria have been set in the selection of the fifty participants of the Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Program:

  • May be either male or female living in the state of Missouri.
  • Must be entering either his or her junior or senior year in high school.
  • Must be a participant of one of the sports for the current Show-Me STATE GAMES or participate in the Volksmarch during the conference.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership qualities in one or more of the following areas:
    • In the community
    • In the home and family
    • In school through organizations and activities
    • In church
    • Through leadership awards the student has received
  • Recommend the student be in a college bound curriculum program in their high school.

If there are unusual circumstances, in which a student has shown leadership abilities by overcoming obstacles, one or two students may be admitted to the program who would not otherwise meet the above standards.
